About Extreme Challenger

Led by Co-CEOs Jes Gram-Hansen and Rasmus Kostner Extreme Challenger was founded in 2011. With backing from German software giant SAP as their title sponsor, SAP Extreme Sailing Team entered the world’s premier global stadium sailing circuit, the Extreme Sailing Series. The Series was based around near-shore fleet racing in the foiling GC32 catamaran class, and delivered fast-paced, breathtaking action between world-class teams.

Gram-Hansen and Køstner – seasoned professional Danish sailors who cut their teeth in the World Match Racing Tour, and America’s Cup –  combined top international sailors with up-and-coming talents. Good chemistry, sharp skills, and solid leadership delivered a potent team which in 2017 realised their ultimate goal of winning the Extreme Sailing Series.

The Team has also proved to be a springboard for many of its past members who have gone on to compete at the highest levels of the professional sailing world including the Volvo Ocean Race, America’s Cup, World Match Racing Tour, and SailGP.

In 2019 the Extreme Sailing Series ceased all operations. As a result, Extreme Challenger along with SAP opted not to compete in any racing events during the 2019 season. Køstner and Gram-Hansen will continue their relationship with SAP as Sports Ambassadors.

The ambition is to bring a top-level team back onto the racing circuit in 2020. Extreme Challenger is therefore currently seeking new sponsorship and partnership opportunities.
