Final Showdown in Porto

The final showdown in Porto sees the SAP Extreme Sailing Team holding fourth overall

As the public descended on the banks of the river Douro today to watch the final day of the  Extreme 40s in action, the podium was wide-open for the final showdown. The SAP Extreme Sailing Team battled winds zig-zaggingacross the river and wind gusts up to 20 knots. That coupled with a strong current made an extremely challenging racecourse to navigate. But the team were hungry for the podium in Porto, already too close for comfort in a points dual with Red Bull Sailing, the final showdown was set to go down to the wire.

The SAP Extreme Sailing Team worked hard to rack up points to close out Red Bull Sailing Team and hold strong in fourthfrom the oncoming attacks of Real Team and Red Bull Sailing Team, with one race win and a second place proving enough to put 10 points between them and maintain 4th overall.

“We came to Porto with a determination to capitalize on our past two Acts strong performance but the challenges of tight and compact racing on the River Douro meant it was tough out there for all the competitors. It felt good to take a first across the line win and we postedconsistent results, enough to put 10 points between us and Red Bull. We arehappy that points wise and we have made gains, but now it means all the more pressure to move on up in Cardiff and look to establish ourselves with a top three position.”

The SAP Extreme Sailing Team upped the ante posting consistent performances, including a string of strong starts and finishes in the top half of the fleet. SAP Extreme Sailing Team is now 10 points ahead of the Austrians in fourth place. With today’s final double points race 3rd place win, the SAP Extreme Sailing Team retainedtheir position but are now looking to Cardiff to dominate and move them into a top 3 position.
